God, as Creator, is revealed through His Creation! (Psalm 19; Romans 1:20). His overwhelming and abundant imagination displayed in the diversity of all we see around us. Not one snowflake is the same as any other. Plants, flowers, foods, and a host of other natural phenomena come in an innumerable range of sizes, shapes and colours. Animals, by their kind, fascinate the minds of men – continually surprising mankind with their intelligence and design. It is no wonder that God is first revealed in the scriptures as a creative God! Within one sentence we are introduced to this awesome being – and then invited into fellowship with Him. Mankind, male and female, are made in the very image of God (Genesis 1:26). The same creative drive flowing from the heart of our Creator, pours through us in its many forms. God is a colourful God, a playful God, a musical God, a God of beauty and majesty. He made the whole lot. Rhythm was His idea, melody and harmony are His creation, movement, dance and laughter were conceived in His mind and heart before they ever came to being. EXPRESSIONS FROM THE HEART OF GOD is all about the reclamation of the arts for their intended purpose – to reflect and worship their Creator, our Father in Heaven. From the joyful exuberance of radical worship, to the most sensitive stroke of the artist’s brush, we believe in the power of artistic expression to communicate something beyond this natural realm. Through the arts we are able to plug into a spiritual dimension of life. The arts, in their many forms and expressions, form an avenue into the presence of God. They communicate from us to Him, from Him to us, and through us to others. Hebrews 1:1 says that God communicates in various ways at various times. This is still true. Through dance and movement, drama, poetry, the spoken and written word, sculpture, crafts and imagery, motion picture and music, God communicates His purposes to the minds and hearts of men. We need to open our eyes and embrace His diversity, enjoy His creativity and rejoice in His liberty! Let God be seen again in the arts, let Him be heard again in the sounds of our generation.
